Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom, have expressed joy and optimism, that the visit by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who arrived in Glasgow, Scotland last night, for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, will go a long way in advancing Harare’s re-engagement drive.

President Mnangagwa's visit to the UK comes more than 25 years after the last official visit, by a Zimbabwean Head of state to that nation. The President is expected to engage leaders that include British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in one on one meetings.

Meanwhile, Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana says, it is of paramount importance that developing countries receive financial grants from developed nations, to implement comprehensive programmes, aimed at countering the effects of climate change.

Posting on his social media platforms, Mr. Mangwana stated that developing countries should not be burdened with loans that need to be repaid, in order to be able to meet the needs of adaptation and mitigation programmes, that slow down climate change.

He added that, while developing countries are low emitters of substances contributing to climate change, the fight against the phenomenon calls for collective efforts.
